On April 12, the municipality of Caucasia in Bajo Cauca, Antioquia, celebrates its anniversary, commemorating the date on which Doña Petrona Arrieta and her family settled in these lands on the banks of the Cauca River, building the first huts in what was initially called the Cañafístula hamlet, before receiving the name that it still retains in 1927.

For approximately ten days, Caucasians celebrate the history and culture of their municipality with a wide range of activities that include parades and float and troupe competitions, mural painting contests in tribute to the history of the town, blitz tournaments of soccer, basketball and volleyball, artisan and peasant markets with local products and live music and performing arts presentations by Caucasian theater groups. In 2024 the celebrations included a tribute to local fishermen with a canoe festival.

The main festival takes place on the 12th with the birthday dawn that from dawn floods the streets of the town with typical rhythms such as the porro and the fandango and the imposing military parade with performances by martial bands.

Caucasia's birthday is one of the main holidays in the festive calendar of this municipality, uniting the entire community to celebrate its culture and history in a colorful setting, full of music, culture and gastronomy.
